PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., February 3, 2021 – The Secure Technology Alliance announced today that it saw record attendance throughout its mobile driver’s license and ecosystem webinar series. This achievement highlights strong momentum in 2020 in its mDL initiative to raise awareness, support development, accelerate adoption and educate the U.S. market on the technology and applications for state-issued mDLs.

The ability of a law enforcement officer to identify the driver of a motor vehicle and the status of the individual’s driving privileges by virtue of a plastic driver’s license is a typical occurrence during a traffic stop. Physically touching and feeling and visually examining security features on a driver’s license to attempt to authenticate the credential are skills officers learn with training and experience. In addition, the plastic license can be conveniently placed in a shirt pocket to take it back to the patrol vehicle, providing the officer the ability to keep his or her hands free. This law enforcement experience has been the norm, but is a plastic, stagnant driver’s license the best method of proving identity and driving privileges?

Augmented identity leader Idemia launched the next generation of Oklahoma’s Mobile ID application, a digital version of the state’s driving license. The company’s new digital identity solution is the result of the latest in a series of partnerships with the state of Oklahoma. The app builds on the state’s existing Mobile ID platform and is now available for download for Android and iOS.
