Now, you can add your Georgia driver’s license and state ID to either Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. This makes select TSA checkpoints quick, easy, and secure. While it is not a replacement for your physical copy, your Georgia Digital ID can speed up the process at select TSA checkpoints.
Arizona residents have a new option for keeping a digital version of their driver’s license or state identification card on their cell phones.
The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced that the Colorado ID can be added to Google Wallet, providing an easy, fast and secure digital version of their state-issued driver license or ID card.
More than 1.5 million state residents now have access to their mobile driver’s license. California residents can now upload their driver’s license to their smartphone and take part in the state’s Mobile Driver’s License pilot program.
In collaboration with the State of Maryland and Google, the TSA now accepts Maryland-issued mobile driver’s licenses and ID cards in Google Wallet on Android mobile phones at select TSA airport security checkpoints. TSA PreCheck® passengers will be able to use this new feature at checkpoints for identity verification at 25 participating airports.
The California Department of Motor Vehicles kicked off the mobile driver’s license (mDL) pilot program back in May with a limited number of participants, but earlier this month, the public was invited to participate.
Mobile driver’s licenses, or mDLs, are digital forms of identification. Michael McCaskill, director of identity management for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, told The Citizen that his organization has been working on mdL-related projects since 2012. Those efforts contributed to the International Organization for Standardization’s adoption of a standard for mDL specifications in 2021. That standard is now being used by states to implement the digital driver’s licenses.
