In collaboration with the State of Maryland and Google, the TSA now accepts Maryland-issued mobile driver’s licenses and ID cards in Google Wallet on Android mobile phones at select TSA airport security checkpoints. Mobile driver’s licenses, or mDLs, are digital forms of identification. Michael McCaskill, director of identity management for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, told The Citizen that his organization has been working on mdL-related projects since 2012. Those efforts contributed to the International Organization for Standardization’s adoption of a standard for mDL specifications in 2021. That standard is now being used by states to implement the digital driver’s licenses.

IDEMIA Identity and Security (I&S) North America partnered with the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) to launch the Missouri Mobile ID App. State residents can now securely access their digital credentials from a free app either from the Apple App Store or Google Play. With real-time credential updates, verifiers can access the most up-to-date status of the ID, including if it’s been revoked or canceled.
